Avodart Information
Avodart is a popular medicine that is also widely known under the name of Dutasteride. This medicine is known to effectively prevent the transformation of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone in the patient’s organism. Dihydrotestosterone is a hormone that is known to be involved in benign prostatic hyperplasia. This medical condition (benign prostatic hyperplasia) occurs only in male patients and it is more commonly known as an enlarged prostate.
Avodart should never be taken by a woman or a child. Dutasteride can be absorbed through the skin, and women or children should not be permitted to handle the capsules. Although Avodart is not for use by women, this medication can cause birth defects if a woman is exposed to it during pregnancy. Avodart capsules should not be handled by a woman who is pregnant or who may become pregnant.
Do not donate blood while taking Avodart and for at least 6 months after your treatment ends. Avodart can be carried in the blood and could cause birth defects if a pregnant women receives a transfusion with blood that contains dutasteride.
Avodart Indications
Avodart is a medicine that is mainly prescribed in the case of patients who need to be treated for an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). However, this medicine can also be used in the treatment or in the prevention of some other medical disorders that have not been listed here. Ask your personal physician for more information.
Avodart Warnings
Avodart should only be prescribed to male patients. Females should not come in contact with this medicine. It has been determined that Dutasteride is A Category X FDA pregnancy medicine. Therefore this drug is known to be able to cause unwanted and potentially dangerous effects to unborn children. Women who are pregnant or women who are planning to be so should not be allowed to handle this medicine (this medicine is known to be able to be absorbed through the patient’s skin). It has also been clearly established that this medicine’s main ingredients are able to pass into breast milk. You must not use this medicine if you are currently breastfeeding an infant. Avodart is known to sometimes react with liver disorders. If you are suffering from any type of liver disease, you might not be allowed to start taking this medicine or you might have to be prescribed a lower dose of this drug. Your personal physician might want to carefully monitor your treatment with this product to see how your organism responds to it.
Avodart is known to be able to be passed through the patient’s blood. You are not allowed to donate blood for a couple of months (up to six months) after you have finished your treatment with this medicine.
Avodart Intake Guidelines
Ask your doctor how and when you should take Avodart in order to get the proper benefits from your treatment with it. You should not disobey any of the advices that your personal doctor has given you. If you do not understand some of them, you ought to ask a pharmacist, a doctor or a nurse. This medicine should be stored at the average room temperature, preferably at 25 degrees Celsius and 77 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. If the Avodart capsules are leaking, you must neither discard nor use them. Alert your pharmacist at once.
Avodart Dosage
You should ask your doctor to calculate the correct dose of Avodart that suits you best. Try to take this medicine at a regular basis (preferably at the same time each day). Do not make any alterations to the dose that you have been prescribed without your physician’s approval.
Avodart Overdose
We have no information regarding the possible side effects that might be triggered by an overdose with this medicine. Avodart Missed Dose
In order to get the proper beneficial effects from your treatment with this medicine you should avoid missing any of your scheduled doses of Avodart. However, if you happen to miss one of your prescribed doses, you should take it as soon as you recall. If it is about time for another dose, you should simply skip the one that you have missed and then proceed with your regular dosing schedule. You must not take double doses of this medicine without first consulting it with your personal physician.
Avodart Side Effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Avodart: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Less serious side effects may include:
- decreased libido (sex drive);
- decreased amount of semen released during sex;
- impotence (trouble getting or keeping an erection); or
- breast tenderness or enlargement.
Avodart Storage
Store at room temperature away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep all medications away from children and pets.
Dutasteride capsules may soften and leak if stored at high temperatures. If your capsules crack and leak, do not use them. If your skin comes in contact with the leaking capsules, wash the area right away with soap and water. Contact your pharmacist for more information.
Do not flush medications down the toilet or pour them into a drain unless instructed to do so. Properly discard this product when it is expired or no longer needed. Consult your pharmacist or local waste disposal company for more details about how to safely discard your product.
